Here's the first of the new Constructeur Racks. The black dot on the tang is about where you would drill for a 700c bike. They should also fit 650b bikes. We'll start shipping them mid week. Click on the photos to enlarge. What do you think?
They better darn well fit a 650B shod bike. Cos that's what I want to put it on. They will, right? Right?Other than that, they look awesome.
Simply put - it is a beaut!
Looks great. Only thing I would say is, surely there's a more elegant way to do that little loop near the axle that holds a bungee or the tie-down for a pannier, no? Could they just weld a curved bit of stainless rod in there and call it a day? I'm buying one either way though. ;-)
David, I actually tried to do the rod thing at the last minute based on your and a couple of other's suggestion. But there would have been a charge for two more welds and it would have taken a week to get the right thickness of ss rod. So I decided not to delay things. Plus, the metal shop seemed worried about how much time this project was taking as it was.
How about a nice front rack? Something similar to the D-racks that Mike Flanigan sells with his bikes. There's lots of rear racks out there of different shapes and sizes, but almost nothing for platform-style front racks. Just the M-12.Think porteur. No rear racks on porteurs.
will this fit a 26inch wheel?
The front rack is coming soon, but it will be a rando style rack. We are about cyclo-touring, after all.The rear racks will fit 26" wheeled bikes, or any bike if the distance from the dropout eyelet to the top of the fender is not LESS then 12-1/4" nor MORE then 14-1/4"
Wow, that is cool! Can I ask how it stays vertical? All the racks that I've used have a connector that bolts to the stays or the bridge. Does this one depend on a bolt through the fender? (Sorry if I missed this info somewhere else.)
Yep, it's bolted to the METAL fender. that's the way all the high end French bikes had lightweight racks mounted. But if you don't have metal fenders, you'll need the ($3) optional strut that attaches to the brake bridge.
