Roller Bearing Headsets

Our roller bearing headsets arrived and I thought you'd like to see photos. BTW, we're calling them roller bearing, rather than needle bearing, because that's technically the correct term.

And here are the new knurled headset spacers. I especially like the black ones with the silver trim. They look like old camera lens extension rings. We have chrome spacers too.

  1. Is there an advantage to the knurled spacers?

  2. Dustin,

Knurls are like the dimples on a golf ball. Your balls fly farther and faster, and so does your bike. Basic aerodynamics.

  3. Knurled spacers - nice. As I live in a friction, quill stem, analog world I have no earthly use for them, but they are very cool. Maybe I'll have to go over to the dark side.....Naw.

  9. IS there any consideration for roller bearing threadless headsets?

  10. Nice work Chris.

I remember a few months back you also said something about a needle bearing bottom bracket.

Is this in the works as well? I see that SKF has a bottom bracket that has needle bearings on the drive side only. But I would think the left side would benefit as well.

  11. We're still considering roller-bearing BBs, but we probably won't seriously start looking into the project until I visit the BB factory and talk over the possibilities. There are too many details to do this by e-mail.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

    Another question for you:

Might there be CERAMIC roller bearings in the future
