We have a new polished aluminum chainguard. It mounts to the bottom bracket and to either the seat stay or chain stay. The finish is polished non-anodized. Overall length is 40cm from center of BB to tip. Max chain ring size is officially 48t, but a 50t just barely fits. $25.
We also have a new 6-degree stem for 25.4mm bars. The shape is just tiny bit different than the VO 26.0mm stem.
so the front of the chainguard mounts between the BB shell and the fixed side of the BB itself?

ReplyDeleteIt mounts exactly as Anon says. It's really a simple system and, as chain guards go, very easy to mount. It does space the BB out 1mm, but that's an insignificant amount.

ReplyDeleteI see there is an extra set of holes on the mount at the BB. Is the chainguard adjustable for smaller chainrings?

ReplyDeleteThe chainguard should work with a rear derailleur on some bikes. It depends on crank arm clearance.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering when VO would release a classy, polished, less-overkill chain guard than the full-chain case. That new guard is a beauty.

ReplyDeleteWould love to see someone offer a cheaper version of the threadless-stem-that-looks-threaded, similar to what Jonny Cycles and Pereira were doing on some custom builds - an integral cap flowing into the stem, single bolt on the front of the stem to attach to the steerer kind of thing. Although I can see how that'd be a pain from a manufacturers perspective.
How about a matching chain ring guard to go with that chain cover?

Oh great, just when I bought and installed the old chrome guard you all come out with the alloy one. I guess a heads up would have been nice.

ReplyDeleteIs it possible to order the mounting equipment for this chainguard separately? I have an old guard that's jury-rigged onto my girlfriends bike, and I feel like I could jury rig it a little better with these pieces!

having trouble securing this chainguard effectively. the mount on the chainstay slips and the guard ends up hitting the chain. am going to buy some cloth tape and put it round the area of the chainstay, but not sure this will solve the problem.
