Wow. Somehow I pictured you folks frequenting a local / organic / home spun bakery business... complete with named mugs on the wall when you eat in, and reclaimed funky paper cups for when you head out (or a thermos full of hot goodness)... anything but DD's. It just doesn't fit my matrix of boule / french / euro / moderne bikes...
:(
Say it ain't so! Can you even get a proper pastry at DDs? Can you even get a proper coffee at DDs? (and not the kind you need on a Fleche or long tour in the pouring rain...
DDs is the closest, has superb customer service (always has), recognizes the car/bike when it drives up and therefore has half the order ready when we walk in the door, and has the best commercial coffee. The closest thing to a good french pastry is in Baltimore - Fells Point.
We are in an industrial neighborhood with no other nearby pastry choices. The alternative is to ride a couple of miles to downtown; no time when there are well over 100 orders waiting to ship.
Of course I personally don't partake of the donuts ;<)_
Looks like you had some coffee spillage on the ride back to work. I've found that a second lid, pushed out, and mounted 180* from the first works wonders for preventing spills. Works especially well with Starbucks cups (gasp!)
Yes, the coffee is 'jus de chausette' but freshness is the most important quality in a pastry, so proximity counts. I clicked this post because I loved the image - well done.
but riding a couple of extra miles... isn't that what its all about?
just gotta go test out these new brake pads... make sure they don't squeal. anyone want a coffee / pastry while i'm out? i really want to load up the front. sure i can't bring back a side of local beef? maybe a drum of caffeine?
Hell yeah Dunkin! Nothing wrong with DD especially when stacked against overpriced and overrated swill like Star$$$. Don't get me wrong, I love my Moka Express and the locally roasted Espresso I grind for it, but sometimes man you gotta get your Dunk on!
I reckon you should investigate some cups like the ones from the link below. Disposable take-away cups are a disgraceful waste: please do better. Otherwise, very cute.
Sheeeez, who would have known you'd get so much criticism over the content and the container of both your breakfast and your beverage. Interesting to note that bike snobbery spills over into other areas.
In fairness, "singletracking" has a good point. Too many disposable cups end up in the landfill and the alternative provided isn't a bad one at all. Personally I just order Iced Lattes in the recyclable (#2 plastic) cup when I need the occasional outside coffee fix.
Just so you all know, I usually hand the coffee runner my stainless travel mug for a refill of DD.
I'm always concerned that DD coffee will contaminate my otherwise pure vessel, which carries whatever home roasted COE/Direct Trade/ Fair Trade and freshly press potted coffee I decide to use that morning.
I really can't stand paper (which is lined with plastic) or styrofoam cups.
There's a perfectly usable espresso machine in the showroom that is woefully underutilized. A couple of us even worked in coffeeshops so we know how to use it.
Tom: Maybe you ought to hire an in-house barista. And if I could politely recommend another coffee: try the Nossa Familia Mathilde's French Roast. It makes everything in life just a little bit nicer. Happy riding! --Beth at Citybikes PDX
Dunkins?

Cause what good is any means of transportation if it can't deliver coffee and donuts?
ReplyDeletedo you deliver to austin, tx?
ReplyDelete@Kevan
ReplyDeleteOr a section of drinking straw folded in half, jammed down into the opening.
So the low-carb diet is over at VO?
ReplyDeleteIt's not over for me.
ReplyDeleteif I lived in your area, I would beg to work for you as you guys are right up my alley due to this pic. Great bike, the Dunks. Rad.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
ReplyDeleteYou haven't fooled me. It's clearly evident the front racks were made to fit the Dunkin Donuts carry out box size. Who woulda known?
Best regards
So now we know what the Porteur rack was actually sized for (though it seems a tad overbuilt).
ReplyDeleteImagine if Dunkin Donuts had never gone to the flatter boxes?
what kind of bars are on this delivery bike? theyre beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThose are VO Belleville bars.
ReplyDeleteCarlson's makes much better donuts !!!!!

ReplyDeleteDonuts? From you guys, I'd've expected beignets. Mon Dieu!

ReplyDeleteI have the Belleville bars on my porteur http://www.flickr.com/photos/97916047@N00/sets/72157621865874116/show/
ReplyDeleteTerrific handlebars! They look narrow, but in fact they're exactly the same width as my Nitto 176 drop bars.
Can I see a pic of how you threaded shifter cables around your brakes and through your grips?
ReplyDeletenice set up

ReplyDeleteAnd, guys, let's not overlook the fact that there are two tumblers in the bottle cages.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the author's usually pretty on top of the ole Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.

So much drivel about coffee and cups, yet no words of concern for the most precious cargo, the donuts...
ReplyDeleteWere the donuts mushed? Close inspection reveals the cups are crushing the top of the box.
Donut protection is important. We need a solution.
