Orange
Tressostar tape is back and we have it in stock. You may remember that it was discontinued by the manufacturer, but they seem to have come to their senses and realized that orange is the greatest color on earth. And it looks great under shellac. I hope they keep making it. Green is still discontinued or not available or something.
In other news, we now have 103mm
Grand Cru Bottom brackets.
Also, the long delayed
1-1/8" Grand Cru sealed bearing headsets are back in stock.
The even longer delayed VO handle bar bags have been shipped and are probably sitting in customs right now.
The VO stems are still a couple of weeks out. I really under-ordered them; sorry.
That's all.
It's weird you say green is discontinued cause Harris Cyclery has it listed as "back in stock", same with the orange and grey.
ReplyDeletenot complaining, just pointing it out.
agreed! orange is the best color.
ReplyDeleteand oh how i lust over an ebisu all-purpose in molteni orange. :)
Does the headset have a split fork crown race, like the 1" threaded version?
ReplyDeleteGood news on the orange.
They do have a split crown race.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a link to a photo of orange tape with amber shellac?
ReplyDeleteScott, there is photo in Chris's Jan 28 blog post.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteFYI, I just mounted a 1" Gran Cru headset on my Bstone. Normally your photography is excellent but the photos do not do justice to this beautiful (and butter-smooth) headset.
ReplyDeleteOf course, in the same order I settled for gray tape when I really wanted orange... :(
DS
that is interesting re: the grand cru headset. While I believe Chris when he says it is lovely, it kind of looks like something from a mass marketer. Perhaps some nicer pictures would do it justice.

Orange is not only one of the best colors,it also seems to make bikes faster.
ReplyDeleteORANGE-you glad Tressostar reintoduced the tape? Har de Har Har.
ReplyDeleteQ: What is orange and fluffy?
ReplyDeleteA: orange fluff.

ReplyDeleteJust finished mine off: http://www.flickr.com/photos/flickr_lee/3486814725/
Orange tape, amber shellac, matching bag, and matching bike...
Didn't a clown/circus company buy out your stock of tape once?
ReplyDeleteYes; a circus company once bought about 500 rolls of yellow tape from us. And they wanted more! I later heard they use it on trapeze bars. Don't know if clowns were involved.
ReplyDelete"agreed! orange is the best color.
ReplyDeleteand oh how i lust over an ebisu all-purpose in molteni orange. :)"
That's funny- the picture also made me think of the Ebisu, feeling similar thoughts...
Hope they bring back green. You can have a lot of fun with this color:
ReplyDeletedark green on this bike and light green on this bike
Chris,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stocking a 103mm length BB.
Can I make a huge request. I would love a ISO bottom bracket from Orange.
Could this ever be a reality or is there not enough demand?
Finding a good ISO BB is proving to be difficult and expensive, on eBay the demand/prices has been quite high. Especially in 109mm length.
The only ones in your price range are the Miche and Token (a East Asia company). The Miche are supplied with very disappointing bearings and token has had very mixed reviews.
Have a good weekend.
Cheers,
CB
Okay, I understand the love for cotton bar tape from an aesthetic standpoint, but don't you guys miss the padding provided by a nice, cork bar tape?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering
Steve
I do not like any padded tape - cork or otherwise on drops. Not a glove wearer either.
ReplyDeleteI have a shellaced cork grips on my bike with swept back bars but chose them for aesthetic reasons over comfort.
I do not mind the feel of old hard Schwinn grips, but they are not all that good looking.
Steve,
ReplyDeleteI once owned a Benotto with some sweet matching Benotto cellotape. With a lightly padded glove it was fine, especially once I added tires larger than 25mm.
Having a smaller bar diameter was nice at times, less like gripping a summer sausage.
I've been using cotton for a few years now, and I still prefer it, but I like cork a lot, too. Durability of cotton (especially with shellac) is one advantage. If you're the kind of person who crashes his bike once in a while, it's nice not to have to re-wrap the bars every time.
ReplyDelete+1 Orange is the greatest color on earth!
ReplyDeleteA double wrap of cotton tape, or a single wrap over cork--either way is absolutely wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOn the padding issue, I'm pretty much in the camp that up to about 30-40 miles, you should be able to hop on your bike in street clothes/shoes without it being an ordeal. Here in D.C., I'm always struck by the perfumed princes in their regulation getups knocking out a 5 mile commute. The equipment complications seems like much more hassle than any minor discomfort, but ymmv.
ReplyDeleteCork is nice, but it is not qualitatively different in the long haul. Things like fatigue override this, imo.
I found that orange handlebar tape made my bike "plane", while regular black cotton tape made my bike seem heavy and "dead".
ReplyDeleteNow, if you can get Tressostar to bring back the light blue tape they used to have... That was fantastic on an orange bike!
ReplyDeleteI have some white tape, I forgot why I bought it. I guess I like white. But it got so dirty so quick, duh, I didn't shellac it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a green freak. It occurred to me that if they ever stopped making green, I could dye the white.
RIT brand dye isn't all that great, BUT! I wonder if a person couldn't make a wash from Acrylic artist paint and dye the white a variety of nice brilliant colors?
Nice color. :)e
ReplyDeleteA bit off central topic tho BBs have been mentioned...
ReplyDeleteHow about getting sealed bottom bracket assemblies made with spindles for Cottered Cranks?
I realize determining what lengths to do and stock would be a hassle BUT what a great wacky item.
Please consider.

Any news on the VAFAC brakes that were mentioned as a potential product some time back? Are they on the drawing boards, in production or have you decided not to do that one?
ReplyDeleteOrange tape is a perfect base to obtain a original dark brown with amber shellac. You can see the result on my bike on www.ateliersembellie.com (no commercial link :)
ReplyDeleteOrange is also the big color for the Dutch and their football/soccer team and cycling is so big in Amsterdam too. I thought maybe this blog referred to them. Oh well, I referred Velo-Orange to a Dutchman if nothing else. Hup Holland Hup! is what they cheer.
