Many of you have asked for a simple all
silver polished threadless stem; well here it is. It's light, has a very nice finish, and a four bolt face plate. 7-degree drop/rise.
The
VO threadless stem adapter allows you to use this, or other threadless stems on a bike designed for a quill stem. The advantages include the ability to use commonly available stems with a variety of rise angles. Threadless stems also have removable face plates, so bars need not be "stripped down" when switching bars or stems. The adapter fit in a regular 22.2mm fork and work with a 1-1/8" (28.6mm) stem; 190mm length. We really like the shape of the particular design.
Chris,
ReplyDeleteI really, really appreciate you doing this.
hal.
Just to check, what is the rise/angle of this lovely stem?
ReplyDelete7-degrees
ReplyDeleteNice. The adapter looks much more constructeur than the this-is-obviously-a-hack other adapters out there.
ReplyDeleteyou've done a good thing here.
ReplyDeleteThe adapters are nice!
ReplyDeleteWhy do the stems have "VO" etched facing the same direction? It seems as though they should be opposite of each other so you always have one up/one down. Otherwise, very nice!
The etching is that way because we just assumed they would reverse them. So much for assuming; next time we'll call out the placement.
ReplyDeletenice stem, but I'm holding out for the quill VO/Nitto, if that's still coming . . .
ReplyDeleteThis stuff is so great. Would you consider doing the same stem but with a steeper rise? Maybe 17 degrees (so that it either could be parallel to the ground, assuming a 73 degree head tube angle, or could get the bars way up there)? (I mean as an additional option, not as a replacement for the 7 degree stem!)
ReplyDelete+1 on the Nitto fillet brazed quill stem.
ReplyDeletethe adapter is your most perfect product to date, and you've had some good ones.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!! and the seatpost is great too! at great prices!!! thanks...
ReplyDeleteThat's the only adapter I've seen that actually looks good. In fact, I'd never even considered the possibility before! :D
ReplyDeleteexcellent adapter! its about time someone came up with a good one!
ReplyDeleteexcellent adapter! its about time someone came up with a good one!
ReplyDelete+1kudos for the adapter. Will you be making it with a longer quill?
ReplyDeleteJorge
How much quill is there above the maximum extension line?
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I think with aesthetic preferences for threaded stems aside, threadless is the most practical choice anymore, especially with frames that are separable for packing. Taking down a threadless headset and dropping a fork is just easier. As much as I like classic quill stems, I don't like the idea of packing along a headset wrench.

I'm hardly a weight-weenie, but I'm curious what the weight is on these stems?
ReplyDeleteThere is 12mm of length above the min. insert line on the adapter.
ReplyDeleteA 100mm stem weight 140gms, that's very light.
CK, I guess you meant 12mm *below* the min. insertion line? BTW, I don't see that line in the picture.
ReplyDeleteChris. Congrats on all the new VO stuff. Soon you'll have to pony up and offer a gruppo!
ReplyDeleteI got the adapter. Now, I wished I also got the stem in one shipment.
ReplyDeleteThese are nice stems for sure. One thing that would be neat is to have a boss -- perhaps M6 -- brazed in under the stem about halfway out, to hold a decaleur.
ReplyDelete140 grams is really light. I am pretty sure the carbon stem on my race bike is more that that.
